In the aftermath of the Holocaust, a Polish woman named Janina Bauman and a Jewish man named Edward Mosberg formed an unlikely friendship that would change their lives forever.
Janina was a young Catholic woman who had witnessed the horrors of the Holocaust firsthand. She had seen her Jewish friends and neighbors rounded up and taken away to concentration camps. Edward was a Jewish man who had lost his entire family in the Holocaust. He had come to Poland after the war to find out what had happened to his family and to seek justice for their deaths.
Janina and Edward met in 1995 at a conference on the Holocaust. They were both drawn to each other's stories and they began to talk about their experiences.
At first, their conversations were difficult. Janina felt guilty about what had happened to Edward's family, and Edward was angry at the Polish people for their role in the Holocaust.
But over time, they began to understand each other's pain. They realized that they were both victims of the Holocaust, and that they both wanted to find a way to heal.
In 1997, Janina and Edward founded the From the Depths Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes reconciliation between Poles and Jews.
The foundation's work has brought together Poles and Jews from all over the world to share their stories and to learn from each other. It has also helped to build bridges between the two communities.
Janina and Edward's story is a powerful testament to the power of forgiveness and the human spirit. It is a story that shows that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for reconciliation and healing.
